This edition of La Mar de Ruido has undoubtedly been the most special of all; the fact that the Festival has celebrated its 20th Anniversary, that alone, is more than enough reason to celebrate it in style. And that is how the Avilés City Council, the Festivities Department and its councillor Sara Retuerto saw it, providing the Festival with the necessary resources to bring big names of Spanish and foreign rock to Avilés. These past 20 years have been a journey of great moments and others, truth be told, not so much. But in summary, I always draw positive conclusions from both circumstances. Everything in life is a learning experience. The bands of this 20th Anniversary were as expected, great. Obús, Mártires del RNRoll, Brecha and Dr. Feelgood opened a highly anticipated festival on Friday 16th August. A tremendous level of bands, with a spectacular sound. The “Kiosko” in the Park, that great stage shone as always, and the fact is that the nights of La Mar de Ruido enhance the architectural figure of the “Kiosko” in a way that even surprises us in each edition. On Saturday, it was the turn of Revólver, Nuberu and Los Acebos. Not even the rain wanted to miss this great night. It was a huge honour to have Carlos Goñi’s band to give their only concert of the summer in Asturias. Nuberu’s return was magical, as are their songs. And the reaffirmation of a new band from Avilés, Los Acebos, justifies the continuous source of musicians and bands that Avilés is and has been throughout its recent history. The closing of Sunday was prepared for the best live band on television to step onto the old stage. The Late Motiv band are overwhelming, with the legendary Pablo Novoa in the musical direction and a Litus, on vocals and guitar, outstanding and dedicated. No less extraordinary were The Electric Buffalo; I believe, without disparaging the rest of the Asturian groups, that they are the best live band we have in the Principality. The Asturian band Fuera de Serie were celebrating their 40th anniversary, and it seemed ideal to us that they should celebrate it at La Mar de Ruido. Their leader Luis Núñez, has also had a special relationship with Avilés for years. I would like to make a special mention, on the occasion of this 20th anniversary, of two fundamental people from the beginning, back in 2005. Andrés Puente (Musical Marcos), responsible for the sound of the festival from the first day and for 18 years, and Pachi Escanciano (Cactus bar), responsible for the provisioning of the public during these 20 years. They have been a moral and personal support at all times, lending a shoulder whenever necessary. My thanks, of course, to the rest of the people who help me in the logistical development of the Festival, Benja and Carlos. Special thanks to Alquison and his technical team who have taken over from Musical Marcos with an extraordinary attitude. Xavi and Jorge at the head, thank you for your great work. The Enfoque Visual team in the image editing and broadcasting, who have crowned a great job; Bruno Rodriguez, in charge of the Festival's spots and Andrea Parissi, responsible for the graphic image of La Mar de Ruido since 2007, form an unrepeatable team so that everything turns out remarkably. From the bottom of my heart, thank you very much. And of course to the public, absolutely essential, who for 20 years have marked the dates of La Mar de Ruido on their calendars, and attend year after year, whoever comes, whoever plays. To all of them, thank you very much. Finally, my enormous gratitude to LOS AMIGOS DE LA MAR DE RUIDO, commercial firms from Avilés that support the Festival on an ongoing basis.
